Using MySpace To Promote Your Art

**WARNING: This post is a bit of a rant. I’ll do my best to make it an educational rant.**

Many artists use MySpace as the website for their art. Which is a fine idea. MySpace is free, easy to set up, and gets a lot of traffic. An artist should use MySpace to promote themselves. But if your going to list your MySpace page as your website please do not have it set to “private.”

Private MySpace

After discovering an artist in a gallery or at a coffee shop I often want to check out their advertised web address. And on many occasions when I go to an artist’s MySpace page I get the message that their page is set to private and must be a friend to see it. I should not have to work to see your art. Set up a page just for your art and do not include any personal information if your worried about privacy. But please do not advertise a private web page.

Thanks. I feel better.
