The Twitter 140 Art Show

Twitter has been around for a few years now but it seems to have reached its tipping point a few months back and experienced an insane amount of new users flocking to the microblogging platform. Twitter is new and cool and fun, but is it useful? Well that is up to you and how you decide to use it. One artist decided to use Twitter to create an art show that is being called “Twitter 140.”

That artist is Sheree Rensel and this is what she has to say on the show’s blog:

“My name is Sheree Rensel (wizzlewolf). I am an artist. I use Twitter to follow other artists. There are many fantastic artists using Twitter. I thought it would be a great idea if we joined together to create a Twitter Art Show group. Our mission is to write a proposal, submit our plan to art venues, and create an exhibition that can travel the world!”

Judging by her latest blog post it looks like they are in the submit to galleries stage, which is why I thought I would post about the show. Maybe you have a gallery or know of a gallery that would be interested in this show. I’ve been following the Tweets and the show’s blog so I know how hard Sheree has worked on this. That makes me want to do what I can to help the show.

I like the idea of using something like Twitter to tangibly bring artists and art appreciators together. In fact I am pretty much a fan of anything on Twitter that does not have to do with gaining more followers, getting rich without working for it, finding a date, and of course losing weight. (The spammers and the lazy are probably a majority of Twitter’s growth.) The Twitter 140 is actually productive and helps put the “social” in social media. Kudos to Sheree for thinking outside the box on a way to put Twitter to good use.

Because Sheree is right there are many fantastic artists to be found on Twitter. But finding those artistic needles in the haystack of Tweets can be a challenge. This show connects you with 24 of them in a very easy way. Just imagine checking out the Twitter 140 in a city near you and tweeting with the artists while your viewing their work. This interaction will benefit both the artist and the viewer.

If your already on Twitter you can follow Sheree @wizzlewolf and if your down with the hash tag you can use #twitterartshow.

Maybe you haven’t drank the Kool-Aid yet and your not on Twitter, you can find out more at http://twitterartshow.blogspot.com/

    DAYLE!
Thank you SO MUCH for writing this blog entry about our show! I truly appreciate it! Thank you, thank you, thank you!! Yes, we are in the “submitting to galleries” stage. I sent out the first dozen proposals this week. We will see how it goes. Regardless of what happens, I will stand tall and be proud of all the artists in our show! We have come a long way in a very short time. The majority of work in the show was made specifically for this Twitter adventure and reflects our Twitter theme. Also, it is wonderful that we have all worked together to make this show happen.
Thanks again for this article. Every little bit helps to boost our spirits and give us all a little pat on the back! All artists need that!!!
    :-)
