Sell more art using free tools found on the internet!

FREE!!

That must be one of the most attention grabbing words in the English language. People love free stuff. We will often take things we don’t want or need if it is free. And thanks to the internet we now have terms like “freemium” and “freecomony” to describe a new trend in business where you give away most of your product and service to gain attention and customers.

But FREE comes with a price. It will cost you TIME, which is a very valuable and limited resource.

When it comes to marketing and promoting your art online there are many free tools and services just laying around the internet waiting for you to pick them up. But which ones are worth it? Which ones will cost you more time and frustration than they are worth? And which ones are an unbelievable value?

In an effort to re-launch Art Palaver I am going to be doing a long series of posts that will address those questions. Each post will introduce you to a free tool, product, or service, that can help you promote yourself and your art.

Many artists use money as an excuse not to market themselves, this Free Art Marketing Course has the goal of eliminating that excuse.

Sounds like a plan?

Good.

The best way for you to get the most out of this course is by signing up to be on the email list. This will ensure you do not miss an article.

Of course you can still use good old RSS or the hip new Facebook if you want to keep up.

Any questions?

The service limits each user’s post to 140 characters or less which is the same amount allowed by SMS. (AKA texting from your phone.)

Though the service started slow and was used mostly by those in the tech and computer fields it quickly grew once celebrities like Ashton Kutcher and Oprah jumped on board. It is now one of the most popular websites on the internet.

But can Twitter be effective in promoting and selling your art work? You bet it can!

Twitter is another avenue that can get your work in front of eyeballs around the world, eyeballs you would have trouble reaching in any other way. Twitter after all is about connecting with people. And it is a great tool for building trust with those connections. Trust is what leads to sales. Right?

But how do you make this happen?

This free webinar will go over effective methods and practical steps an artist can apply to Twitter in order to build a following that leads to more sales. It will also cover powerful tools and resources you can use to get the most out of Twitter.

Every week ArtPalaver.com host’s a free webinar covering a topic to help you sell more art. Each webinar is about 20 to 30 minutes long and includes live Q & A so you can get specific questions answered about art marketing challenges you are facing. Find the details of feature webinars and archives of past webinars right here.

This webinar has already happened but you can find the audio, video, and slides below:

The most visited URL on the internet is www.google.com, the second most visited is www.facebook.com. What started as a way for students of Havard University to stay connected has grown into the second most popular site on the whole world wide web.

Facebook currently has more than 400 million active users, 50% of those users log on to Facebook in any given day, more than 35 million users update their status daily, and an average user spends more than 55 minutes per day on Facebook. (Find more stats here.) What this means for the modern day artist is that there is a community of Facebook waiting to get to know you and your art. It means when we talk about marketing and promoting your work through social media Facebook is the one place that can not be ignored. Which is why I am excited to offer a free webinar on Facebook for artists.

This webinar will cover:

Profiles vs. Pages

Protecting your privacy

Setting up your page to promote you and your work

Finding fans

Converting Fans into Sales

Everything in between!

There will also be time for Q&A to answer your specific question.

If you are not able to make the live broadcast the audio will be available for download shortly after the event. I’ll be making separate posts that include this download. Please drop me a note or leave a comment on what day/times would work better for your schedule. Also let me know what topics you would like to see in future webinars. I plan on doing at least one webinar a week.

The live event has already happened.
Here is the audio recording of the webinar:

The email newsletter is probably one of the oldest internet tools available for an artist to promote their art. They have been around since the invention of email. Many artists send out “email blasts” through their email client like Gmail or Hotmail. Cutting and pasting a list of emails into the “To:” box and hitting send. This is the easiest method and it is free. It is also illegal.

Yes I said illegal. You see when you send out an email like that 9 out of 10 times it does not conform to the CAN-SPAM Act of 2003. The biggest reason for non compliance is there is no easy way to opt out of the emailings. To comply with the CAN-SPAM act the professional artist will turn to an email service to handle their mass mailings.

There are a few to choose from but only 1 that I know of that lets you run a list of under 500 addresses for free, that service is MailChimp. I’ve been using MailChimp for six months now and I highly recommend it to any artist looking to have an easy to use professional email service.

That’s really all I got for you today. If you’ve been thinking about using email to market your work start with MailChimp.
