Issue 6 Of Ruminate Literature Magazine Released

December 11th, 2007 admin

This just in from the editors of Ruminate Magazine, a literary magazine published in Fort Collins:

Issue 06 is being released this week! It features exciting art from Brittney Williams and Vincent Berquez, fiction from Stephanie Dickinson and Colleen J. Clayton, poetry from Paul Willis and Sally Rosen Kindred, and nonfiction from Jessie van Eerden and Bethany Carlson. And all of it engages the theme of “epiphany” in suprising and ruminative ways. We hope you will enjoy.

Here are some reviews of Ruminate:

The well-respected literary magazine database “New Pages” reviewed RUMINATE for the second time saying “RUMINATE does what all good art should do: it challenges expectations. This magazine provides a refreshing look at all aspects of religious faith, without sounding preachy. Anyone interested in spirituality, Christian or otherwise, would find something to appreciate here. Just prepare to be surpised.” (New Pages, Oct. 2007)

Otto Selles reviewed RUMINATE in the November issue of “The Banner,” a denominational magazine of the Christian Reformed Church. He wrote: “Only a year old, RUMINATE is establishing itself as one of the finest Christian magazines dedicated to the ties between faith, art, and literature. Produced in Fort Collins, Colorado, the magazine blends reproductions of paintings and photographs with poems and short stories through a classy design.” (The Banner, Nov. 2007)

National Novel Writing Month

November 1st, 2007 admin

National Novel Writing Month

Grab that blank notepad, pick up a pen and start writing because today begins National Novel Writing Month. Here is a statement from their website:

What: Writing one 50,000-word novel from scratch in a month’s time.

Who: You! We can’t do this unless we have some other people trying it as well. Let’s write laughably awful yet lengthy prose together.

Why: The reasons are endless! To actively participate in one of our era’s most enchanting art forms! To write without having to obsess over quality. To be able to make obscure references to passages from our novels at parties. To be able to mock real novelists who dawdle on and on, taking far longer than 30 days to produce their work.

When: Sign-ups begin October 1, 2007. Writing begins November 1. To be added to the official list of winners, you must reach the 50,000-word mark by November 30 at midnight. Once your novel has been verified by our web-based team of robotic word counters, the partying begins.

I tend to be a glutton for punishment so I am going to go for it. I admit I comforted by the fact that they do not stress quality, just quantity. So I can think of it as National Novel Draft Writing Month. I’ll try to remember to keep you posted on my progress as I attempt to put down 1666 words on paper a day.
