Is There Still A Rocky Mountain Foundry?

November 17th, 2007 admin

I ask the question, “Is there still a Rocky Mountain Foundry in the works?” because I have not been able to find any information about the upstart artist community. The idea of the RMF was to be an affordable artist community with studio, gallery, and living space built from large metal freight container boxes. It planned on being located near Old Town Fort Collins. Last year the editors of the Rocky Mountain Chronicle named it “The Best New Addition to the Arts Scene.”

Currently the website, www.rockymountainfoundry.org, is a dead URL. And the address is not registered. I did some asking around and some Googling but could not find out any information on the current status of the RM Foundry. If you know anything please leave a comment.

More Art for the Mail

August 2nd, 2007 admin

I just heard we have a postal art project a little closer to home. In fact the guy who started it is right here in Fort Collins. His name is Chris Gregori and his project is called Post Due. The web site states:

“.post due. is a collective of people that create unique, handmade postcards each month. The idea is to connect with at least one person from around the world through your own expression of art.Every couple months an email is sent to you with the address of someone from the collective that you send your postcard to. The postcards are anything from newspaper clipping collages, quick oil or watercolor paintings, sketches with a pen, photography … pretty much anything the post office will accept as deliverable mail.”

Check out the project and sign up here.

Chris Gregori’s website is here.

Art For Postal Workers

July 29th, 2007 admin

I am a fan of all inclusive art projects. I discovered a nice project called Mail Me Art on the blog Lost At E Minor today.

The project was created by a guy named Darren Di Lieto over in London. The idea is to mail packaging that is art. Or maybe art that is a package. Eventually the submissions will be displayed in a gallery. There are prizes and cash as well being offered.

Check it out here and send some Fort Collins creativity across the pond.
