ZAF622 Episode 001

In case you did not know it this blog is part of another web site called ZAF622.com. I started ZAF622 to help art and artists through Q&A style interviews. That was way back in 2005. I’ve done 22 interviews in that time. (One is still in the works.) The interviews are a slow and cumbersome process. It has been frustrating for me and for the people I interview as they wait for them to be published. That is why I am now pushing my tiny boat out into the waters of video interviewing.
Bryan Collins is the artist in Episode 001. Bryan has been a good and supportive sport as I begin this new adventure. I am hoping there are more artists out there like him willing to get in front of the camera. I believe video will enable me to get artists and their art out to more people. These days a lot of people would rather watch a video than read a page full of text.
I still have a lot to learn and a lot to improve. But I have started. And starting is often the hardest part.
Check out Bryan’s website: www.bryandrinkscoffee.com.

Thanks for sharing Bryan with us. Please pass on to him how nice it was to get to know him a little. He encouraged me with his words about expressing yourself and not worrying if it’s good enough.
I like how his art provided the curtain between scenes/questions.
good idea Daryle.

It’s awesome to have this insight. Love the random tail that bobs across the bottom of the screen three quarters through hehe.

Daryle, it’s exciting to see you taking the video plunge. It’s clear you have a gift for helping artists to open up about their work, so I am sure you will find this medium a powerful new outlet. I like the way you separated this one with pauses for artwork, because it helps give the viewer a small break between topics. I’d recommend experimenting with filming closer up to your subjects, and putting the focus on them with perhaps one shot of both of you, to set the scene. I’ve been working on such matters and you can see what I’m talking about in this interview with Internet musician Matthew Ebel. Mainly, I just want to offer my admiration for your debut. Your Tweet about it made my day today, as I sat through a long meeting pondering proposals from artists for a DIA commission.
