The Gallery Underground is getting into movies by showing Billy Brown Sox Thursday night, the 14th. I could not find out too much information on the film or the filmmaker other than this little bit found in a Yahoo! group post…
"Billy Brown Sox is the story about a small town delivery boy
who gets hit by a car and wakes up in a parallel universe accused of
a crime he may or may not have committed."
The film is being show 3 times that evening, 5PM, 7PM, and 9PM. The gallery is in the basement of the Avery Building on Mountain and College. I wonder if there will be popcorn?

In Part One I talked about how a blog can help people find you and your art. And maybe you have been thinking about creating a blog but do not know how
or where to start. And you may also be worried about having enough content, or enough discipline to keep updating it. Well let us tackle one thing at a time.
How do you begin to create a blog?
First you must decided what blog service to go with. There are several free options out there that are well tested and easy to use. I recommend starting with a free blog to see how blogging suits you. If you like it you can always upgrade it later. Let us look at some of the more popular options. (In no particular order.)
Blogger. This is Google’s blog service and can be handy if you already have a Google account.
Wordpress. Wordpress is probably one of the more popular blog services out there. The free version has lots of features and a deep community of users backing it up. Also it is easy to upgrade if your blog really starts to take off.
LiveJournal. To be honest I do not know much about LiveJournel, just that it is a popular choice.
I have experience with Blogger and Wordpress. Both worked well for me. I’d recommend Blogger if you want to keep it simple or if your not sure about this whole blogging thing yet. And I’d recommend Wordpress if you want some more options or you think you will want to upgrade your blog. By upgrade I mean have your own unique domain name and the ability to customize it fully to your liking.
I started this blog using Wordpress hosted by Wordpress for free. My original address was www.zaf622.wordpress.com. I now host it on my own server so that I can have a unique URL, www.ArtPalaver.com. Starting with the free simple version was nice though because it gave me a taste for blogging. I was able to kick the tires and see if I liked it.
If your interested in adding a blog to your self promotion tool kit just click on one of the links above and sign up. Each site makes getting started pretty simple. But you don’t like to write, or you fear not keeping the blog current, or a blog will just add one more thing to your long to-do list. Stay tuned fearless reader, we will talk about that in Part Three.

Beet Street has agreed to sponsor Art Palaver. This is very exciting for me. I can imagine it might be how a painter feels after selling their first piece. Sponsorship will help Art Palaver grow and improve and I hope to gain more sponsors. But as I do that I will not allow the blog to become cluttered or allow sponsorship to influence content. (In case you were worried.)

I just spent some time looking around for blogs by Fort Collins artists. I did not have much luck. I had trouble even finding a regular web site of a Fort Collins artist. But I know many of you have web sites. Where are they? Ever consider doing a blog?
I ask that question because search engines like blogs. That makes it easier for people to find you. And oddly enough bloggers like blogs. Which also makes it easier for people to find you. That is because bloggers form a huge network on the internet of writers and readers. I think I should use an example to illustrate what I am trying to say…
Yesterday I posted a small piece about a gallery in Los Angeles. I found that information because the gallery had blogged about it. Since I liked what I saw I shared it with my audience, the 3 of you. And maybe, just maybe one of you also liked what you saw and got in touch with the artist of the piece you liked. Bottom line is an audience of readers in Fort Collins Colorado was presented with work from artists in Los Angeles.
This could happen if you had a blog of your art. An art blogger in New York or Glasgow could find your blog and share it with her audience. Someone in that audience could really like what they see contact you maybe even to buy a piece or two.
Blogging is a simple tool to add to your self promotion efforts. Blogging is easy. Blogs can be free. If your already doing a newsletter of some sort you should be putting it in a blog.
But you say you don’t know anything about blogs. Reading Art Palaver may be the extent of your blogging experience. Well I can help you move beyond that. Through a series of posts I will do my best to help you get started in the world of blogging.
And if any of you artists out there have web send me the addresses. I would like to start working on a artist’s links page both on Art Palaver and ZAF622.

I should let you know that I purposely do not write about comics as much as I want to here on Art Palaver. If the word comics is a little too low brow we can also call them sequential art. You see I am a big fan of the genre and believe that here in America comics are under appreciated. Like any medium there is a lot of bad meaningless work happening but there is also a lot of amazing statement on humanity being made as well.
One of the men we can thank for comics surviving through the years is Stan Lee. Mr Lee has created many many characters through out the decades that have become staples of our pop culture landscape. His work has also been a major influence on many kids who grew up to become writers and artists. And these days his creations seem to be ripe for the picking for the movie studios in Hollywood.
Why am I telling you all of this? Well the Gallery 1988: LA has put together a show of work inspired by Stan Lee and I just wanted to share it with you. Below are some of my favorites. Click here to see more. (Thanks for letting me get a post about comics out of my system.)
