One Year Ago Today

December 20th, 2007 admin

It was one year ago I first dipped my toe into the Fort Collins art blogging pool. And looking back at those early posts it is good to see how much it has evolved. Though I still feel I am finding my blog voice and I have kept things pretty safe this far. I know it will continue to evolve and that voice I am looking for will be found.

Thanks to everyone who reads this little blog. I do appreciate the comments and support I continue to receive. It is because of you I will continue to work at this and continue to develop it into a good source of information on art and artists in Fort Collins.

At the end of the day all I want to do is help artists in this community do what they do.

Raise your glass to another year of art palaver!

Fort Collins Art In Public Places Board Meetings

December 18th, 2007 admin

I have been planning to attend an Art in Public Places board meeting for the past couple of months. I was going to do this so I could report to you, my ever faithful readers, what is discussed at those meetings. The website states that the meetings are the 3rd Wednesday of every month. But yet again they have canceled the meeting on the 19th because they already had it on the 12th. This has happened the past couple of months and is quite frustrating. How do you cancel a meeting and have it before the appointed time? Maybe they are trying to hide something? After all they are spending a lot of our tax payer dollars.

Click here to see the boards web page. I will keep trying so we can all learn what goes on in those meetings. And yes I have emailed them using the contact information posted on the site and I have yet to receive a response.

Who Is Exploiting Who?

December 16th, 2007 admin

This morning Art News Blog had a post about Blocks of Poop by Santiago Sierra. The work is just as the title states, Human feces harvested from India in the form of huge blocks. Would you go see it? What kind of statement is it making? Am I giving it undo credit by even writing about it? Is art like this just created for the media attention?

Read the post here, and comment on what you think of art of this nature?

(Thanks Art News Blog)

Fort Collins Non-Profit Coffee House, Everyday Joe’s, has released a 19 song CD download of Christmas tunes. This is part of the statement released by Everyday Joe’s:

“One part of the vision of Everyday Joe’s is to give back to the community as much as possible…whether that be monetarily, through in-kind donations, not charging for the use of the building, and now, through a free CD compilation for you.

Love, Everyday Joe’s- vol. 1: No More Gloom is now up for download by clicking here. This is an idea that had been brewing in our minds for some time and to see it come to fruition is fantastic. All the music on the album was donated by musicians who have played here. This will only be available for a limited time (until about Jan. 1) so don’t dilly dally. Get downloading!”

The compilation includes Aboyandhiskite, Winderous Igloos, Eric Peters, Josh Dillard, Luke Flowers, Trace Bundy, Eva Holbrook, Kate Hurley, The Blackthorn Project, Tim Coons, Listener Project, The Apprentice, Jeremy Lister, Jonah Werner, Andrew Osenga, Katie Herzig, Aaron Strumpel, and Sleeping At Last.

The download is complete with album art. Click here to get it.

Issue 6 Of Ruminate Literature Magazine Released

December 11th, 2007 admin

This just in from the editors of Ruminate Magazine, a literary magazine published in Fort Collins:

Issue 06 is being released this week! It features exciting art from Brittney Williams and Vincent Berquez, fiction from Stephanie Dickinson and Colleen J. Clayton, poetry from Paul Willis and Sally Rosen Kindred, and nonfiction from Jessie van Eerden and Bethany Carlson. And all of it engages the theme of “epiphany” in suprising and ruminative ways. We hope you will enjoy.

Here are some reviews of Ruminate:

The well-respected literary magazine database “New Pages” reviewed RUMINATE for the second time saying “RUMINATE does what all good art should do: it challenges expectations. This magazine provides a refreshing look at all aspects of religious faith, without sounding preachy. Anyone interested in spirituality, Christian or otherwise, would find something to appreciate here. Just prepare to be surpised.” (New Pages, Oct. 2007)

Otto Selles reviewed RUMINATE in the November issue of “The Banner,” a denominational magazine of the Christian Reformed Church. He wrote: “Only a year old, RUMINATE is establishing itself as one of the finest Christian magazines dedicated to the ties between faith, art, and literature. Produced in Fort Collins, Colorado, the magazine blends reproductions of paintings and photographs with poems and short stories through a classy design.” (The Banner, Nov. 2007)
